  • The North Country Trail passes mere miles from my front door. My shakedown hike of choice circles the Shawnee Wilderness and involves a good section of the NTC. It's a beautiful area. My avatar pic was taken there.

Great tips---thanks jimmyjam---way back on the other pages... Hikers Against Thread Drift

  • Some of us have already been discussing the options. We could easy the weight on the shelters by slack-packing (or not), with a shuttle back to HF for the first night, then back to the trail on Monday. I kinda like that option. I could wait and leave the next day (May 4th), but the option above allows for getting the hiking day in and return to the trail fresh and fed.

  • The numbers are up! Registration currently shows 42 attending the FFKO. And that's just the ones who've registered with the ATC. This is going to be fun!

  • Trying futilely to determine how many people might be there, just for fun. Will it fizzle, or go off with a bang? Who knows? Yes, jimmyjam, we will be expecting you. When you get close, we can txt up so we can meet up. Two months from today!

We're shameless winos at our house. I make wine. So when you have three hundred bottles in the cellar, that's what you're having. I even have a few award winners. My favorite recipe is the one I call "Dragon Blood", which is a triple-berry wine (blueberry/blackberry/raspberry) with a hint of lemon. Sweet+Tart+Fruity. I make lots of it for friends and family. I'll have some with me at the FFKO in May! Another reason to make the switch! IMG_0835.jpg

Hello Everyone! Danger, here. Jimmyjam invited me to wander in from the "nether regions" of the internet. I'm glad I did. Great looking site! Reader's Digest Condensed Story: I'm 51 years old, and live in southern Ohio with my wonderful wife and two dogs. Lifetime outdoorsman. Decided to thru-hike last year. Retired last month (and loving it!) from a 28 year career as a firefighter/paramedic. My pre-hike has evolved from an early NOBO (Gods forbid!) to a May 3rd Flip Flop from Harpers Ferry, WV.…
