Quote from LIhikers: “Kathy and I got out for a bike ride today of 13.87 miles through some hilly parts of town. Mid way through the ride we stopped at a bagel shop for lunch. We sat at an outdoor, sidewalk table and had a.good conversation about our upcoming AT hike. I'm getting excited about and am looking forward to the hike. Although to be honest I am nervous about it as we've never hiked near that far before. According to the A T Companion it'll be 1026 miles. ” Just like any other hike you…

We filled in more colors for the TOPO Ultraventure 3 for men’s and women’s trail runners. Come grab some new shoes today!" Never heard of em, so I took a quick look. They have a vibram sole which I am partial to for a variety of treasons. REI also carries them. My guess is that Hoka Speedgoats are still one of the most popular trail runners. They also have a vib…

Quote from Sonder: “Hello Folks new boot here, but not new to hiking. Well I will find myself for three days in the Baxter area. I will be solo and my prime objective is digital photography and fly fishing. If mother nature starts to act like a reluctant toddler weather wise I was thinking about a hike on the fabled AT. This will be a short hike only 3-7 miles. If I can get my friend to join me I would be up for a 9 mile hike. With those parameters what are your fave stretches being onky 3 - 9 m…

Quote from LIhikers: “Our thought is that we'd like to start as soon as we can. If the heat is high we'll hike slower. When we hiked in PA it was over 100 degrees so we'd take a break in the afternoon and do our miles in the morning and evening. ” Shelters come in handy for that, providing an open place sit or lay down in the shade. Still rather sleep in my tent at night.

Quote from IMScotty: “I am not sure how many AT hikers actually know that Mt. Mitchell is actually the tallest point east of the Mississippi. I think there is a trail that now connects the AT to Mount Mitchell, but I have not heard of any thru making the side trip. ” And it was once proposed that the AT would initially go thru Mt Mitchel. But they decided to switch to the route by Clingmans Dome.

Quote from LIhikers: “I had to put my mechanic skills to work to get our hybrid bike (that my wife usually rides) working correctly. First the chain needed to be replaced as it was worn too much. Once that was done the chain would skip when hard pressure was applied to the pedals. That's a sign that the cassette ( or freewheel) is worn and needs to be replaced. With that done the bike is working just fine now. ” She is fortunate to have you.
