  • Quote from IMScotty: “Quote from jimmyjam: “I never met an airport terminal that I liked. ” Everything seems to go smoother in a small sized airport.Near me Manchester NH > Boston if the price is right. Flew back from Bakersfield (Meadows Field) on my last PCT hike. That was such a superior experience to LAX, it was worth the extra connection. Even the TSA was smiling there. ” Security lines are usually much shorter and much easier at small airports. Unfortunately it's not uncommon to wait an ho…

  • Quote from odd man out: “Old, cramped, hot, and not enough windows to get good views of your plane. Aviation enthusiasts are not impressed. appalachiantrailcafe.net/index…49e36f38ee4d48fe70df3e769 ” Well you're obviously not in a business class lounge.......... That's the problem. I've spent a lot of hours in the Air France lounge there. It's not overly nice, but it'll do. Keeps you from having to associate with riff raff. Hey, if you going fly like poor people ...you're going to be treated like…

Quote from rhjanes: “There was a recent conversation on one of my social . The days of CORRECT news seems about over, sold for online posts of (many times) miss-information. You can take any idea you wish, even flat-earth, and find lots of "Correct" information to prove the earth is flat. ” "Correct " news...... From newspapers? There's no such thing. This is not 1955. All the major newspapers are liberal rags with an agenda and spin on everything they publish. NYT, wapo, etc. Completely worthle…

Oh I get it ..,..people want it to be easy.......

  • Yeah people are more susceptible to heat related illnesses as they get older...... So I suspect their overall tolerance of heat is somewhat declining as well. When my dad was 66 I think, he came in from mowing the yard and was in the kitchen getting a drink, and my sister came in and found him . He didn't know who she was , or who he was, or where he was. She took him to the ER and on the way several times he repeatedly asked where they were going...... Kind of scary but you definitely seem to n…

The reason I ask is because when Kathy and I hike the south half of the AT we plan to do it in the fall, maybe starting in September. We're curious as to how much company we might have. ” It just depends on when they started but most southbounders will try and be done by either Thanksgiving or Christmas. Those are target dates they want to be home for. Most of them will be cruising at 100-120 mi a week. You …

  • Apex vs Down?

    Muddywaters - - Gear

    Post

I've still got a catalyst for my winter pack, but I've been eyeballing a 62 L arc blast. My 50 L is limited to a max of about 3 days food if I want to get the top closed with gear for 10-20F. Of course I like everything to be inside the pack, mesh pocket. I suppose I could just strap on some kind of little Cuben sack on the outside until a day or two of food is gone if I had to. Would be a whole lot cheaper. All the extra down don't weigh but another pound or such.... It's not a weight issue

My expectation of layering a 40* apex quilt with a 30” down bag is a comfort level of teens to 20’s. ” Probably not a bad guesstimate. I've layered a 40 and a 20 down into the teens and been toasty, on an xlite pad. One that the insulation was kind of deteriorated and flaking off inside. I was jus…
