  • I carry some good macaroni, King Flour brand powdered cheddar cheese, Nido and olive oil. I boil the macaroni till it's softened, but still not al dente. I pour off most of the water, add olive oil, sprinkle cheese in while stirring, add Nido the same way, add some parsley, salt and pepper, and put the pot in it's cozy for five minutes. Stir and I've got a nice smooth Mac 'n' cheese. If I have some good jerky, I might add it in early in the process.

Looking like the GAP/C&O is gonna happen this summer. Haven't done any bike touring in many years. I have a hardtail mountain bike, an old aluminum road bike, and a steel old-man fixie. Looking at a Salsa Vaya for a light touring/gravel bike, and getting rid of the rest. Maybe .... L Dog appalachiantrailcafe.net/index…75929fb2bbfe48d64b800dee2

Well, we sold our place in SW Michigan, and moved north. The wx has been in the mid 20s, but is expected to drop into the teens, with overnight lows in the single digits over the next week. We had 14" of snow over the last several days. Slush is consolidating along the lakeshore, and soon the lake will be frozen. Our new house was really built to be a three season cottage, with electric baseboard heat. We have been snow-birders, but we're wrangling contractors to insulate the crawlspace, and add…

Quote from IMScotty: “Anyway, maybe I am a wimp. I appreciated my bug netting. Good luck on your hike. ” Nah, The black flies, and those damn gnats doggedly trying to fly into my eyes made me insane. I pack, and use a head net while hiking. When I got the Warbonnet, I saved 8 oz over my Hennesy w/integrated bug net. Now the Warbonnet is longer, wider, and consequently more comfortable than the Hennesy, but I checked out there optional bug net, and it weighs 8 ozs ... Doh!

Quote from LIhikers: “I'm sure you won't regret that stop at The Inn At The Long Trail. Here's hoping that all goes well. ” I stopped there during an AT sobo section. I heard about how the reroute took "The Inn ON Long Trail," off the trail from the innkeep over an irish whiskey. It was a highlight of the hike and can't wait to get back ... The way it was intended!

So, I was gonna do it this year, but I ended up buying a new, old house and selling my old, old house, and moving all our old shite from our old house to our much smaller new house, providing a downsizing opportunity unparalleled in my lifetime. So I didn't hike. The plan as it stands is to start second week in August, and hike nobo. As the certified slackest hiker on the AT, I plan to transfer the habits that earned me that distinction to the LT. 270 miles at my avg rate of 9 MPHD yields 30 hik…

It got all the way up to 40 today. Gonna be in the 40s all week. Icicles are breaking free, and smashing our shrubberies. But we still have 12-18" of snow in the yard.
