    I've cycled the C&O in its entirety twice - once in spring, once in fall. I still prefer cycling over hiking but you'll see even more wildlife when you hike instead of whizzing along in a bike. Last winter, I did a short snowshoe hike and was rewarded with a sighting of otters in the Potomac. Most of the river was ice covered but I saw a few of them atop the ice and then one emerged out of the water with a fish in its mouth.     For those unaware, on May 23 I published my book narrating my 2011 thruhike of the Colorado Trail. The title is Shades of Gray, Splashes of Color - A Thru-hike of The Colorado Trail. Information (including how to purchase) is on my admittedly-rudimentary website cookerhiker.com and from the book's Facebook page. I will be touring Colorado starting next week promoting the book.
