I have to say that of late I have been disappointed with the way the cafe has been going. The departure of Hikerboy saddened me although unlike him the reduction in political content actually pleased me. However without him what political content remains is slanted in a way I find offensive after some 40 years of employment in the welfare sector of my wife and myself. To hear comments indicating that your country's economic woes are because of welfare recipients amazes me given that your country…

  • My Tents - a Review (and a bit about pegs)

I haven't broken an Easton stake yet but I always carry 2 more pegs than my minimum for contingencies.

  • Quote from TrafficJam: “Quote from Drybones: “I really like that tent in the photo beside the peg photo, I'd need a larger pack to carry it though. ” The crop circles are cool too. ” It's a labyrinth.

  • If your referring to the house, rooms are available at a price.

  • Quote from TrafficJam: “pegs...the #2 is the one hikerboy had trouble with in high wind at Whigg Meadow. I had a combo of those and the 12gm aluminum pegs at Max Patch and mine also came loose in windy conditions (the aluminum ones did great). But, they were the easiest to use in the hard-packed ground at the campground. I've never seen the Big Agnes pegs for sale and my daughter's didn't come with them, neither did my Copper Spur 3. Where do you buy them? ” As Drybones has intimated, they are E…

  • Quote from Astro: “Oz, Good job, but did you put this together originally for a local audience? All the weights are in kg instead of lb. ” When in the US I delve into my schoolyard memories and deal with your pounds and ounces. At home my scales are set to metric. Lots of conversion stuff out there but I have to do it all the time. Your turn.

  • Okay I'm still trying work this out. I can't get the text in between the pics. So I'm going to put all the text bits in here at the start and if I work it out edit it later Will try and do it in order of pics. Please note: all tent weights are everything tent includes EXCEPT pegs and hiking poles if set up requires it. (i.e suffsacks etc except for SMD for which I have no stuffsack). Weights were done on my scale immediately after striking tents on the day. Tent peg numbers are what I consider t…

Quote from odd man out: “I can't recall the last time I bought something from REI. But I know I became a member about 40 years ago. I wonder if they could find my membership number for me. It's probably carved on a clay tablet in their basement somewhere. ” Probably. When we went in to one in NY with Coach made inquiries and they found him and it wasn't that old but it was a lot of years. Main thing is to remember the address you had when a member.

No idea but I made another attempt to logon to tos yesterday. Then I sent another request for a refund of 11 months of silver membership and my pics to be deleted. I may have used strong language.

First six are 11gms or less. The big one weighs 42 but take it and leave the trowel home. Useful for the windward side on sandy pitchs. Oops. Pic upside down.

  • Best Wishes Clarity. My brother in law over 30 years ago had a broken neck in a motorcycle accident in Italy. Came home on a stretcher a quadriplegic. About a month later started to get some feeling. Was walking in 6 months. Still technically a quad but is fully mobile and leading an active and fully functioning life. Just don't lose heart. It's an area with tremendous hope for treatment in the next decade.

I never truly mastered the slide rule. Never tried the abacus. I was always pretty sharp at mental arithmetic.
