Orienteering day at Tyler State Park. One of my favorite places. I didn't start my track until after the first control. 3.4 miles, 423 feet elevation gain, 1 hour 29 minutes tracked but actual time on course was 1:32:32. I got second in class and 6th overall. My buddy and I then ate lunch and went and checked all 30 of the permanent controls at the park. We did split up a lot of it. I think today's question "When does Baxter CLOSE trails up Big-K" is incorrect. Am I wrong that the trails COULD close based on Ranger decisions. I've seen social media posts by Baxter in the winter, to paraphrase "Due to ice and winter conditions, Trail X, Y and Z are closed. Trails D, E and F are open. We had clouds early in the morning. By noon the clouds were still taking turns obscuring the sun. About 45 minutes before totality, it started really clearing out. When it went to full totality, I can't describe that. We had planned to travel about 1.5 hours to the south to get a longer totality time. We have some friends there. But traffic could be an issue also. However the farther south you go, the thicker the clouds will be. We've decided to stay home now. But we are on the fringe of the totality area. But we still will have high cloud cover and maybe more. Storms moving in from the south by 4 PM.

Have you read about the 101 floor tall building in Tiawan? It has a pendulum near the top for absorbing vibrations. Says you may go up and view it. Other cameras aimed at the building during their earthquake showed other buildings moving....and not the 101 tall one. WOW.

Texas is still iffy. IF the thicker clouds stay near the coast on their way up, to central and north Texas, we get some partial views. IF the thin clouds stay, we might get some views. IF....IF.....There is rain but not until after the eclipse.

I missed it. Don't think I've seen it either. I looked at my AT Guide but must have misread it as I came up with "Northern Shenandoah", so picked HF/WV. I then looked at Pen Mar Park and the current AT Guide shows it at mile 1067 on a NOBO.
