  • We are just now getting to the point that a long range forecast will provide meaningful info on the weather for April 8. Tomorrow, my weather app will start giving an April 8 forecast.

A favorite trail snack are French's fried onions. The plastic tub they come in is perfect for packing Pop Tarts to keep them from getting crushed in the food bag. At least the fried onions are healthy because they are a vegetable. Right?

Oberon Day is a major holiday in west Michigan.

  • it's been shown that forecasts beyond 10 days are no better than random guessing. So I will wait a few days before worrying about forecasts. The average weather is your best guess at this point, and that is definitely cloudy. The article about the 10 day forecast limit asked if it was ethical for web sites to post a 14 day forecast as it was giving the false impression that their forecasts were better than the pages that gave a more honest 10 day forecast. At least Scotty admits those 14 day for…

My wife is a birder, so if we are out for a walk, and I turn around and she's not there, I figure she probably stopped some time back to look at a bird, so I have to back track to find her. I'm more of a plant person than a birder.

Quote from Astro: “Quote from max.patch: “3) Alfred Hitchcock in just about everything he did. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_…ances_by_Alfred_Hitchcock ” He made so many good ones, but my favorite was North by Northwest. ” Me too. In NbNW, the Hitchcock cameo is in the opening credits sequence over NYC street scenes and you see Hitchcock miss the bus at a bus stop. The closing sequence is also famous. Eva Marie Saint climbs up to join Cary Grant in the top bunk of their sleeping car. They cut to…

I use Mapy.cz (from the Czech Republic). It is a basic navigation app. It has a tracker, but I haven't used it much so I'm not sure it gives you more than distance and elevation change. But is allows free downloading of maps for every country in the world for offline use. Maps have great detail and most hiking trails are shown. appalachiantrailcafe.net/index…97b7622fe5952f277a96c8681

Quote from LIhikers: “Kathy and I got out for a walk of 7.6 miles on a pretty nice day. Temps in the 40s, wind at 5 mph, and the sky was partly sunny and partly cloudy. It was on a wide, flat trail, that's very easy to walk. It's more like a rail trail than a hiking trail. Lots of people out walking their dog so Kathy got a fur fix. I was glad about that since we no longer have a dog and she's a real animal person. ” We have a dog park in our town that is always very crowded. We will take our co…

If they do it would be one of their "Average" questions. I know there is a "How much time does the AVERAGE thru hike take?". ” Yes they do. Trust fund was not one of the choices.

  • Quote from hikerboy: “There's nothing wrong with buying used gear, as long as there's nothing wrong with the gear itself.... ” I would add that this is especially true for quality gear. Osprey doesn't make the lightest pack, but it is probably the best selling pack so it is likely to retain its value well. It works well for many people so there is a good chance it can work for you.

  • Along with Silver Streak in the "inter-racial odd-couple buddies ally with femme fatale to battle the rich and powerful bad guys" movie category is Trading Places.

  • Quote from rhjanes: “Quote from Astro: “Silver Streak great classic movie. Love the line where Richard Pryor introduces himself as "I'm a thief". ” Great Cast. Gene Wilder, Scatman Crothers stealing scenes, Jill Clayburgh, Patrick McGoohan ultimate sinister ruthless badguy, Ned Beatty as the Vitamin salesman talking about scoring with the ladies, but he's an undercover cop, Clifton James as the sheriff stealing scenes (Don't Shoot!), and Ray Walson NOT playing "Aloha Mr. Hand"....And don't overl…
