Post. . . awaiting Max's input, I'm not touching it with a 10' pole

Quote from hikerboy: “i can't for the life of me fathom carrying an extra bottle to pee in. ” Ours is a 2P tent. 1/2 (outdoor streamer) gets awakened by the other 1/2 (tent pee'er multiple times in the night.) It's easier all the way around to just pass the bottle and go back to sleep.

PostFound V's journal. On point re tips&trix ^ Disable guest book on tj. More seem to be doing it now. otoh, V noted the power of positive msgs. She sounds like a class act, example: Post Hike #1. That's nothing short of generosity toward readers. Like, like, like.

Oz, I can't get my hands on the tent due to mfg supply issues, so no first hand experience. But that's what Honey Bunch wants, and that's what HB gets. Silhouettes? Just guessing it's similar to a cuben.

Oz, it's the same tent you use with your other half, only 1 oz. heavier. Hardly a gimmick for car campers at that price/weight. Headlamp, flashlight = blinding lasers that bleach the rods & cones of the eyes. The mtnGLO is muted diffuse light. Far superior for our purposes. Don't let your other half read this, she may want one.

PostI detect paranoia among some of these post...a passive aggressive brand of online vitriole? I don't "need" to scope out anyone for contented backpacking. When shuttlers talk, I listen. It's common sense: know your surroundings.

Oz, the other half wants it. Happiness formula. Max, the flashlight occupies the hand that guides the stream.

PostQuote from OzJacko: “The other person Max was mimicing is someone that I would love to meet one day. I still believe him responsible for a vitriolic and anonymous series of entries in Violet B's trail journal. Despite many thousands of posts on TOS he has never posted anything that identifies him. ” Internet vs real life. Vitriolic online p.o.s.'s are good to avoid, and makes a case for privacy seekers on the trail. But true privacy is an illusion. Seek and ye shall find. A US passport (facial r…

LED lights sewn into the tent body so I can find my pee jug at night.

Quote from OzJacko: “Lots of gear but my favorites... Tent BA Copper Spur 2. ” I'm swapping out an ancient Sierra Designs for the Copper Spur mtnGLO. Mfg's are still having supply issues though, out of stock.

PostLone Wolf seems to be the one guy who finds himself right at home at the cafe, TOS, and Sgt Rock's place. Unlike the rest of you. So give him that, the guy's got charm. Or something. Another thing I'll give him is this. Once when a group of us were at base camp (hanging our hineys out while changing and the usual stuff) Lone Wolf and 2 companions passed by. Every single person in our group remarked that he was the only one to stroll by who didn't eyeball our camp. No matter how you slice it, tha…

PostCreepy hiker thread? Too cruel unless you're talking about Bismarck (unk to me) and Max (unk to me) so I'll take your word on that assessment of them. The intended topic was in fact about creepy prying hikers, so you got that right. Like the jag off who just outed the high ranking Naval officer who was heretofore safely flying under the radar. And the duo who drops the ATI clones off nobo, then hikes SOBO to make sure they do as told, while gathering intel on every hiker they come across. So sta…

Quote from TrafficJam: “What are you reading right now? I'm listening to All the Light We Cannot See by Anthony Doerr. It's set in WW II and is really good. I'm also reading Marriage Can Be Murder, an entertaining, English mystery also set at the beginning of WWII. ” WWII stuff for me too. Just got a load of used books from Amazon, among them Prisoner #7 Rudolph Hess and Spandau the Secret Diaries. They give me an overwhelming urge to get outside.

PostGotta love the hikers who broadcast their exploits for public consumption on tj, ph and TOS. I'm an entertained consumer who eats it up when they spill their guts, but I'm not a contributor because jeez! the online written word can have unintended consequences. (F'rinstance, clued-in and apparently well-heeled hikers don't publish gear lists.) Even with trail names and other precautions, privacy/anonymity seekers are losing the battle. Two recent examples seriously stick in my craw. But then aga…

I feel like TrafficJam in the "Where Should I Hike" thread. After 15 years contentedly backpacking in the south, 2016 begins my foray into the north. The AT is the basic spine of my route but I'm cherry picking sections, generally heading northward via the AT and other trails. If I can endure 4 - 5 months, it's the Tuscalachian Trail starting early April and ending somewhere in Maine, aided by an OVERWHELMING assortment of Delmorme Gazetteers and trail guides. At the moment, it's patchwork but h…
