I just finished a book titled Valhalla by Robert J. Mrazek. It's a fiction story with action and international intrigue and a "who done it" component. I recommend it if you enjoy those sort of books.

A hike of around 90 miles, on the Appalachian Trail, is just what the New York section of the AT is. There's no big mountains, plenty of ups and downs, it's not too far north or south, and if you need, you can get to the trail from New York City.
