Tried a couple of scotches this weekend, to me not worth the money, neither of these is as good as the Glenmorangie which is nice with a cigar but other than with a smoke I'd prefer Evan Williams at 1/7 the cost.

So I guess the park got 5”, the rain came mid morning, which we would have been on are way out. I don’t know the road conditions then, but we have taken that sleigh ride to the Inn before. Kevin got a lot, and Scotty got it real icy, which would have…

Crappy. The weather is crappy. One-two inches of snow followed by freezing rain, followed by a deep freeze. Could be worse though, I live on the Housatonic at the bottom of its valley. A mile away and just a couple hundred feet higher in elevation…

As I was out there shoveling my healthy 22 year old daughter trudged by me through the snow (I hate it when people walk on snow I am about to shovel) and said, "I have to go to the gym." I wonder if she saw the irony in this? A half hour later my wife…

When we win all the time, people say "you must be smart" and I always so that winning trivia is not about being smart, it's about knowing lots of crap, or more accurately, it's about WANTING to know a lot of crap. You've probably seen comics to bits on…

  • Winter Linville Gorge

On February 27th, 28th and 29th I did a two night out and back trip from Wolf Pit Road trail-head to Table Rock mountain and back. In typical cafe fashion I planned this trip while driving 80 mph east on I-40 heading back from the Smokies. I stopped at a McDonald's to borrow some free Wifi to get a picture of a the trails and away I went. Going up Wolf Pit road in my 2002 Honda Accord was risky with the amount of ice and snow on the road. The final hill going down to the…
  • Great Smoky Mountain National Park

On February 25th and 26th I did a nice loop in the Smokies from Big Creek Ranger Station parking lot to Deep Gap along the AT south of Mt. Cammerer fire tower. There was about 6 to 8 inches of snow while going up. I stealth camped due to the amount of snow coming in and the next day went down the Big Creek trail. Overnight there was another 6 to 8 inches of snow and freezing fog.
