Our crew only did a few small projects and just 3 guyz tops. My Town Land trust has had only those zoom meetings, which I do not. We moved to town in the summer, in the late fall I joined the Land Trust and gave them my resume.......they gave me a trail!…

Seems the repair of my full length pad was a success and held air all night long. As for our dog, at 12 years old she's not too active any more plus we weren't right next to each other. Now I'm wondering why I waited so long to repair it. Oh wait, I…

I know the NY/NJ Trail Conference stop crew work last year but then brought it back later in the year and participation is at each person's own, individual discretion. The work that Kathy and I do as boundary monitors doesn't involve anyone else…

Curious if anybody participating on any trail crews 2021, any trail. Assuming they happen. Many were axed last yr.

Kind of toying with the idea of one myself in CO.

I love that you give a week or more of your time, pay all your own expenses, and they still charge you......but a good cause

I've been using the same sleeping pad for years and years, a Thermarest, Neoair, Allseason. Not only is it comfortable, but it's warm in the winter too. For the last few years it's had a slow leak and I'd have to blow it back up to proper pressure a couple of times per night. Today I was off from work and decided I'd try yet again to find the leak. So I partially filled the bath tub with water and gave the sleeping pad the dunk test while I looked for bubbles. This isn't the first time I've tried this, and like all the other times I didn't find the leak. Out of frustration I e-mailed Thermarest and got back a reply to view the videos they have about the subject. In the video they recommended that if you couldn't find the leak in plain water then wipe the mat down with water with soap mixed in to produce bubbles. Sure enough, that did the trick and I found the leak :) Next on the list of things to do was to find a patch kit or order one. I dug around in our drawer of…

On February 27th, 28th and 29th I did a two night out and back trip from Wolf Pit Road trail-head to Table Rock mountain and back. In typical cafe fashion I planned this trip while driving 80 mph east on I-40 heading back from the Smokies. I stopped at a McDonald's to borrow some free Wifi to get a picture of a the trails and away I went. Going up Wolf Pit road in my 2002 Honda Accord was risky with the amount of ice and snow on the road. The final hill going down to the…
  • Great Smoky Mountain National Park

On February 25th and 26th I did a nice loop in the Smokies from Big Creek Ranger Station parking lot to Deep Gap along the AT south of Mt. Cammerer fire tower. There was about 6 to 8 inches of snow while going up. I stealth camped due to the amount of snow coming in and the next day went down the Big Creek trail. Overnight there was another 6 to 8 inches of snow and freezing fog.
