Hello everyone. I am a 45 year old Canadian woman with mid level hiking experience. I would like to explore part of the AT and I will have about 8 - 10 days to complete the hike. I plan on going the first 2 weeks in July.
I prefer to be surrounded by forests, mountains and lakes. I don’t want to hike through towns, I really hope to be away from civilization and enjoy mother nature. I am planning on camping or brining a hammock with a canopy.
    1. Given that I am coming from Ontario, most likely driving down, which trail would you recommend and why?
    2. After I park my vehicle at point A, how do I get back there at the end of the hike?
    3. Is fresh water readily availabe at various points along the trail?
    4. Are there places to fish?
    5. Is there any other helpful advice you would have for a single woman hiking?
Thank you in advance for your helpful recommendations

At what blood pressure would you be willing to start taking medication? My family doctor started me on it about two years ago when my BP was about 140/90, she (only doctor I ever trusted) adopted a house full of children and gave up her private practice for a director position somewhere to have better hours with the family. With the medication I'm normally around 140/75, my new doctor started me on additional medication. After reading the side affects of both medications I'm considering stopping all of it. I read some doctor on the internet say he'd not medicate unless over 140/90....when I told my wife that she asked if he slept a Holiday Inn Express.

  • Winter Linville Gorge

On February 27th, 28th and 29th I did a two night out and back trip from Wolf Pit Road trail-head to Table Rock mountain and back. In typical cafe fashion I planned this trip while driving 80 mph east on I-40 heading back from the Smokies. I stopped at a McDonald's to borrow some free Wifi to get a picture of a the trails and away I went. Going up Wolf Pit road in my 2002 Honda Accord was risky with the amount of ice and snow on the road. The final hill going down to the…
  • Great Smoky Mountain National Park

On February 25th and 26th I did a nice loop in the Smokies from Big Creek Ranger Station parking lot to Deep Gap along the AT south of Mt. Cammerer fire tower. There was about 6 to 8 inches of snow while going up. I stealth camped due to the amount of snow coming in and the next day went down the Big Creek trail. Overnight there was another 6 to 8 inches of snow and freezing fog.
