This past Saturday Kathy and I took a 5-6 mile walk on some county park land in Long Island's pine barrens area. To my surprise, and delight, I didn't experience any pain in my foot. It was hot and humid and I was totally soaked by the time we were…

Glad the foot issue resolved. I'm about to take a guest-dog to the vet. He's around 75 pounds, a sweet dog, loves to chase ball. Is limping bad. I've examined his foot a few times and can't find anything (Stickers, broken nail...nothing). And he…

Just a few photos from a Saco River Kayaking trip I did with my wife. Conway, NH to Fryeburg, ME, 17 miles. It was a single overnight trip because that is all I can get my wife to do with me, after that she demands hot showers and soft beds.

This part of the Saco is a flat water river.

There was a huge raft of Merganser ducklings, I think these were Common Mergansers.

It was a nice, hot, sunny day, so the first part of the trip the river was clogged with people floating on tubes and drinking beer. Once we got past them, however, we had the river to ourselves. We were the only people who went past the first takeout that day as far as I could tell. The Saco has lots of sandbars you can pull up on for camping. This is where we spent the night. Would have had a nice fire that night except some dumb-ass forgot the matches :)

We pulled out the next day about noon and waited for our pickup. It was a good trip, got to camp with the wife which is a rare thing.

On February 27th, 28th and 29th I did a two night out and back trip from Wolf Pit Road trail-head to Table Rock mountain and back. In typical cafe fashion I planned this trip while driving 80 mph east on I-40 heading back from the Smokies. I stopped at a McDonald's to borrow some free Wifi to get a picture of a the trails and away I went. Going up Wolf Pit road in my 2002 Honda Accord was risky with the amount of ice and snow on the road. The final hill going down to the…

On February 25th and 26th I did a nice loop in the Smokies from Big Creek Ranger Station parking lot to Deep Gap along the AT south of Mt. Cammerer fire tower. There was about 6 to 8 inches of snow while going up. I stealth camped due to the amount of snow coming in and the next day went down the Big Creek trail. Overnight there was another 6 to 8 inches of snow and freezing fog.
