Knocked out another official 11 miles on OHT, although I walked twice that between today and yesterday. Will post more details with pictures tomorrow or Monday.

Just discovered a nice option for someone hiking the AT through SNP. Haven't been there yet, but it looks nice. If you take the Harris Hollow trail a couple mles south from Gravel Springs Hut down to Harris Hollow Road. Turn left and continue a few miles…

Went to Loda Lake Wildflower Sanctuary in the Huron Manistee NF. It's an easy 2 mile loop through the woods, along the lake, boardwalk over a big, and by the ruins of an old farm. One of our favorite walks. Not a lot of flowers this time of year but did…

Trail Days 2020 has been cancelled, of course, due to the virus. In addition to the economic loss from the lack of hikers this year and the cancellation of Trail Days, the Town of Damascus is sitting on a bunch of pre-ordered Trail Days T-Shirts.

Astro posted the link to purchase a shirt over on WB, and I am sure he would not mind me sharing his post here...

Try this link and scroll some
    traildays.us/
    Or go directly here
    traildays.us/index.php?id=29
Please note while the site says not secure, it will eventually take you to PayPal for the transaction.

Folks are saying the shirts run small, so you might want to move up a size or two from your usual if you get one.

I just ordered mine. I figure this will be a 'novelty' item someday, and a small way to support the town.

  • Winter Linville Gorge

On February 27th, 28th and 29th I did a two night out and back trip from Wolf Pit Road trail-head to Table Rock mountain and back. In typical cafe fashion I planned this trip while driving 80 mph east on I-40 heading back from the Smokies. I stopped at a McDonald's to borrow some free Wifi to get a picture of a the trails and away I went. Going up Wolf Pit road in my 2002 Honda Accord was risky with the amount of ice and snow on the road. The final hill going down to the…
  • Great Smoky Mountain National Park

On February 25th and 26th I did a nice loop in the Smokies from Big Creek Ranger Station parking lot to Deep Gap along the AT south of Mt. Cammerer fire tower. There was about 6 to 8 inches of snow while going up. I stealth camped due to the amount of snow coming in and the next day went down the Big Creek trail. Overnight there was another 6 to 8 inches of snow and freezing fog.
